


Terms and Conditions for
Flash Fiction Entries
We are looking for unpublished, complete 500 to 1000 word original flash fiction stories with crisp prose, well-developed characters, compelling plots, and satisfying resolutions. We want stories that engage our minds and emotions.
We publish across many genres, including speculative (science fiction, fantasy, and horror) and literary fiction. For more information on the types of stories we enjoy, please listen back to a few flash fiction episodes of the podcast. Or read any of our published anthologies.
Formatting: Please format your submission in a single-spaced, 12pt Times New Roman font on an unadorned, white background Word document (Pages if you’re an Apple user). Please include your story title and name, plus your story, no other information. No PDF submissions. No Images and no graphics.
Multiple Submissions: You may submit as many entries as you wish, as long as they are all original to you, and written for the relevant writing-prompt. Please email your submissions separately.
AI Generated Submissions: (Not including Grammerly, Pro Writing Aid etc… which are also Ai
driven editing tools) We are committed to publishing stories written and edited by humans. We reserve the right to reject any submission that we suspect to be primarily generated or created by language modelling software, Chat GPT, chat bots, or any other AI apps, bots, or software.
Queries: Email any queries with QUERY in the subject line.
Fees: There is no cost involved insubmitting your flash fiction. Entry is FREE. There is also no monetary payment made for stories chosen to be read out on the podcast. Nor for stories chosen to be included in any of the Bare Books Anthologies.
We are unable to provide personal feedback or critiques. Please ensure your story is proofread for plot holes, spelling, grammar and punctuation before submitting it. If you do not hear back via email and it is 5 days after the submission deadline then please assume you were unsuccessful on this occasion.
We will NOT consider stories that promote or affirm hatred, prejudice, or violence toward any group of people based on age, race, nationality, religion, sex, gender, political affiliation, disability, neurodiversity, or other social identity.
